EKY Farm Equipment Flood Damage Program

The Food + Ag Flood Recovery Resources Team* and other groups across the state are partnering on a farm equipment program for commercial farmers impacted by the July 2022 flooding events. Please complete the online questionnaire or download a copy and mail in to help us match farm equipment needs to the right repair/refurbishment site.

Application Deadlines:

Round1: October 31, 2022
Round2: November 30, 2022
Round3: December 31, 2022

Stage 1 of the program (fall 2022 dates) is an inventory of damaged equipment and Stage 2 is coordinating pickup and repair of equipment in local communities (winter 2022), with the objective of getting operational equipment back to farms in early spring 2023.

Frequently asked questions about this program:

Is this program for homeowners/gardeners? No. This program is only for commercial growers selling farm products.

Is this an equipment replacement program? No. This program is just to repair/refurbish small equipment impacted by the floods in July 2022. We cannot replace equipment and we cannot guarantee the equipment can be repaired.

Is there a fee to participate? No. We anticipate the program covering the cost of most repairs. In the event the repair is more extensive than the shop can successfully complete, you will be contacted to discuss options. The farmer is responsible for getting the equipment to the central pickup location in the area.

Where do I submit the completed form? Farmers can complete the form online (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EKYFloodEquipment) or download a copy to complete and email to info@kyhortcouncil.org or mail to: KHC EKY Equipment Program, PO Box 21736, Lexington, KY 40522-1736

When is the deadline? The first round deadline is Monday, Oct. 31, 2022 and submissions will continue to be reviewed monthly.

What happens next? Once you submit this form, you will receive a phone call or email to give us more details about your farming operation and the equipment in need of repair. Please have general information prepared about the equipment you would like to submit for repair – things like type, make, model, serial number, general state of operation. We will schedule a pick-up at a location in your community like the local Extension Office, Soil Conservation District Office, or the Robinson Center (RCARS) in Breathitt Co. Once that date is set, we will meet you at the location where you will complete a bit of paperwork.

How will you make sure I get my equipment back? Each piece of equipment will be assigned a unique identifier and tagged to ensure everyone involved in the program knows what piece of equipment belongs to what farm to make sure you get your equipment back. This information will be traceable and you can check on the status of your equipment using an online portal.

What if my equipment cannot be repaired? We anticipate that some equipment cannot be restored to good working order for many reasons. You will be informed if this is the case and it will be returned to you or we can help you make other disposal arrangements.

Who is involved in this program? *Food + Ag Flood Recovery Resources Team includes: Kentucky Horticulture Council (KHC), Community Farm Alliance (CFA), Grow Appalachia, the Organic Association of Kentucky (OAK), and the Kentucky Center for Ag and Rural Development (KCARD). Program partners include the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service, Capstone Farm and many KY high school VoAg programs across the state.

How can I help support the program? You can support the program in several ways – financial donations (to support purchase of filters, oil, replacement blades, etc…), volunteer to help with intake and tagging, or transport equipment from the pickup site to drop off site.

Where can I get more information about the program? For more information about this equipment program, contact KHC at info@kyhortcouncil.org or 859-490-0889 or talk with one of the project partners.
