KHC’s purpose is to support the state horticulture industry and be a resource for information and education for growers, business owners, and the public to promote a thriving industry.
Have you been impacted or are you looking for ways to help our ag industry in areas of Eastern Kentucky impacted by flooding? Here are some ideas:
- EKY Farm Equipment Flood Damage Program – a program for commercial farmers to repair/refurbish small-scale farm equipment damaged during the floods. If you would like to donate to this program, please send an email to info@kyhortcouncil.org.
- Relief Funds for EKY
- Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund – online portal to provide long-term relief and help with food, shelter and other necessities.
- Kentucky Ag Relief Fund – a cash donation portal managed by the Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation. Checks can also be mailed to the relief fund.
- Central Appalachian Family Farm Fund – donations go to small-scale family farms in Eastern Kentucky fund was created by Community Farm Alliance and Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky.
- Hindman Settlement School – monetary donations, Amazon wishlist donations, and direct donations are welcome.
- Appalshop – a list of many different ways to support the relief efforts in EKY.
- United Way of Kentucky – online portal managed by UWK.
- American Red Cross – online portal managed by ARC.
- Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service – contact your local office for needs and ways to assist
- Kentucky Ag Disaster Donation Program – partnership between KDA and UK Extension to distribute supplies to impacted areas. Contact your local Extension Office or Keith Rogers with KDA at KeithL.Rogers@ky.gov
- Kentucky Department of Agriculture Disaster Resources – disaster assistance program information, overview of federal assistance programs, tip sheet for assessing damage, mental health resources
- USDA programs – emergency loans, programs to remove debris, repair fencing, crop loss programs (NAP – non-insured Disaster Assistance Program; TAP – tree assistance program)
- FDA Food Safety – guidance on how to evaluate crops that have been affected by flooding.
- FEMA – temporary housing, repairs, other assistance
- Kentucky Department of Transportation – Road Closures and Updates on EKY
- Power Outage Map (Kentucky) – interactive county map to determine power issues
- Flooding Preparedness and Recovery – American Red Cross Flood Safety, National Weather Service Flood Safety Tips and Resources, US Department of Homeland Security Flood Safety, United Way of Kentucky, American Red Cross Kentucky,
- Small Business Administration (SBA) – disaster assistance resources
- Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) – resource page for those impacted by flooding in EKY, including claim sites in counties
